Multimedia Tools
While the creation of multimedia products is now very easy due to the wide range of user-friendly tools available it is the ability to share these and even co-create online multi-media products that brings a new dimension to using multimedia in the classroom. Students now have the abilty to create for an authentic audience as well as see the work of thousands, if not millions, of people instantaneously through the WWW using such things as Youtube, Smilebox, Pinterest etc.
Media sharing tools and services share most of the following characteristics"
1. Creative - students can create and co-create products using a range of tools from digital cameras, webcams, podcasting Apps etc.
2. Communicative - social media encourages a two-way conversation or interaction
3. Transformative - media can be mixed or 'mashed' together to develop a multimedia product (Glogster, Thinglink, Time Capzles are some examples of this).
4. Community focussed - allows communities to form around common interests.
